Richard’s earliest studies were with George Colley RHA, and in the National College of Art under Maurice McGonigal, RHA, and John Kelly, RHA. A more recent mentor was Eithne Carr, RHA.
Richard exhibits annually with the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club, and has served the club as Hon. Secretary and President. He has been a frequent exhibitor in the most prestigious Irish juried exhibitions, including the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Royal Ulster Academy, and the Oireachtas. He has also exhibited on occasion with Iontas, Icon 2002, the National Small Works Exhibition, and the National Portrait Awards Exhibition, and has participated in various group shows in Ireland and abroad. His paintings are in public and private collections in Ireland and overseas.
Media and Genre
Richard paints in oils, pastels and watercolours. Cityscapes are a favourite genre, but all manner of subject matter from nudes to still lifes to portraits feature in his output. As a realist painter, he is not content to show the boring reality; seizing on the poetic elements in the frame to transform the subject from the mundane to the magical.
