Born in Dublin, Michael McWilliams has been working as a professional artist for over thirty years.
The study of art has been his way of life since he won the children’s Texaco National Art Competition. He studied in Dun Laoghaire College of Art and subsequently worked for a short time in advertising.
He is known for his mural works and sculptures, which can be found in major hotels in Ireland.
He has exhibited frequently in the RHA Annual Exhibition and also in ‘Sculptor in Context’.He also has exhibited in the RUA and Oireachtas Exhibitions and won, in the latter the Waterford Crystal Award. He has exhibited with Tom Ryan PPRHA and Michael Gemmell in two person shows and has had fifteen one man shows in Ireland and abroad.
Michael McWilliams relies on nature for inspiration. He enjoys primarily to work ‘plein air’as he feels with this approach he can achieve a better representation of light and form.
His work is held in many public and private collections at home and abroad.
