Pam Bowie, a native of Waterford is mainly self-taught. Throughout her long career she has attended many part-time courses and workshops. She paints in oils and watercolours but in recent years her preferred medium is watercolour.
The Irish countryside is her main source of inspiration and she paints landscapes, seascapes and rural scenes. She has a deep seated interest in old stone cottages and endeavours to capture the nostalgia of an almost forgotten Ireland. The effects of weathering on buildings present a continual challenge and she uses dry brush and various techniques to demonstrate this.
She prefers ‘plein air’ painting where possible and has travelled all over Ireland for inspiration. She is a member of the Dublin Art Society and the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club. She exhibits regularly and her paintings are in collections both in Ireland and abroad.
