Meadows with red Clover and Sweet Cicely – Yanny Petters

Working at Burtown House, Athy, in 2018, Yanny Petters selected wild flowers

from the meadow, focusing on those with the richest blossoms.

Later, the flowers were pressed between boards and, in due course, were

carefully arranged in a decorative composition Printing ink was applied to each plant. These were then printed – as a monotype – onto Fabriano etch.

The technique echoes that of the 18th century nature prints.

Although minimal watercolour may be added to selected plants,

Yanny believes that the character of individual flowers is best revealed by the original graphic. The extraordinary delicacy of “Meadows with Red Clover” is testimony to the artist’s gifted use of her medium.
